The radio-controlled Superman airplane by Otto Dieffenbach
Residents of southern California may do a double take when they spot a life-size ‘Superman’ careening past them overhead, cape and all, but the flying object is actually a radio-controlled aeroplane in the form of the comic-book hero.
Otto Dieffenbach, a designer and engineer from southern California, has made aeroplanes out of styrofoam that look like famous comic-book characters, such as the Man of Steel himself.
“We envision just about any character you can think of flying and add a dimension that’s never been used before,” said Ed Hanley, Dieffenbach’s business partner.
“It just blows everybody’s mind.”
The planes, which can reach speeds of up to 30mph, are used for commercial promotion, Sky News reported.
Dieffenbach and Hanley said because of the amount of man hours it takes to build a plane, they don’t plan to sell them to the public.
