The Cork branch of Engineers Ireland will be hosting an event on 9 April to discuss the implications of technology on the sector’s future and how it hopes to benefit from the impact.
Entitled Digital State: Evolving Engineering, the event will take place from 9.30am-2pm at Rochestown Park Hotel. A selection of speakers will discuss topics including the importance of ICT for the development of smart cities, and how the coming together of engineering and computing will lead to more efficient use and provision of services and natural resources.
Some of the guest speakers to attend the event include Prof Cian O’Mathúna (Tyndall National Institute); Dr Dominic O’Sullivan (University College Cork); Dr Dirk Pesch (Nimbus Centre); and Kevin Twomey (EMC).
Denis Collins, chairperson of the board, IT@Cork, European Tech Cluster and global executive at IBM, will chair the seminar.
“If Irish engineers wish to remain best in the world and competitive, it’s imperative that skills keep pace with relevant digital and smarter planet trends,” Collins said.
“Our ‘Act as One’ vision across industry, government, public sector and academia continues to drive commercial, social and academic results. Our cluster is positioned to drive a platform for economic growth, and new skilled jobs in this multidisciplinary space.”
A fee of €50 applies to all event attendees who are not members of Engineers Ireland.
