The realisation that mankind hasn’t set foot on another solid surface beyond Earth in a long time became apparent this past weekend, the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

On 20 July 1969, US astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first human beings to set foot on the moon.

Aside from landing on the moon being an incredible achievement, the fact it was achieved in the first place seems nothing short of a miracle, especially as only eight years previously US President John F Kennedy made it the United States’ priority to land a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s.

Of course, to this day, a significant number of people refuse to believe that mankind has actually set foot on the moon and rather believe that legendary director Stanley Kubrick filmed the entire event in a Hollywood film studio.

All that film would have required, then, is to ignore the thousands of people who spent years developing the technology at US space agency NASA, the astronauts themselves, and everyone employed in Hollywood to not mention a single word in nearly half a century. Seems simple enough …

Of course, it’s not all about the bragging rights …

And for those who think the moon landing is a hoax …

Lastly, no doubt many of those interested in space and space travel can sympathise with this.
