The Digital Youth Council wants you! Calls for new members passionate about STEM

19 Feb 2015

The Digital Youth Council is expanding to become a body across the island of Ireland and is seeking new members passionate about boosting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in their schools.

Teen entrepreneur Harry McCann, founder of Kid Tech, inspired by last May’s Excited digital learning festival in Dublin, conceived the Digital Youth Council initiative and with the help of founding members Ciara Judge and Lee Campbell, has enlisted the support of leading public figures committed to STEM.

Sixteen-year-old McCann established the Digital Youth Council with the help of Ciarán Cannon TD, and Bernard Kirk, the director of the Galway Education Centre, both originators of the Excited movement.

The council is made up of 12 members who are all young leaders in technology, science and communications, including Google Science Fair winners, BTYSTE winners, Junior Eircom Spider winners and more.

But now it is being expanded from 12 to 15 members. The council will be raising the number of main council members from 12 to 15. We will also now be accepting members from students in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland,” McCann stated.

Applications are now open for the Digital Youth Council for August 2015 to August 2016.

Applicants must be in second-level education and not be currently in an examination year.

To apply, students must record a video (two minutes max) demonstrating their interest in both STEM and the Digital Youth Council and upload the video to YouTube as “unlisted.”

They must then email the link to the video along with their name, age and telephone number to info@digitalyouthcouncil.com

Applications close on 1 March at 8pm.
