Welcome to the new Republic

29 Jun 2010

From today, Siliconrepublic embarks on the next stage of its evolution to highlight a new chapter in technology news coverage. Readers will notice a variety of new services, resources and ways of engaging with our stories:

Our new site is designed to give our audience a richer experience. We will continue to deliver our promise of sharing the best available news and intelligence on key issues vital to our audience. Now we have the tools to display the most relevant information for each individual who visits our site. As every page is viewed, we will display information that is likely to be of interest to the person viewing that page.

Siliconrepublic now enables a visitor to view news on every possible topic, and be shown related content to what they are interested in: related news, videos, jobs and reports. Visitors will also be able to find top jobs, get top career advice, watch event highlights, find events, products or services, and browse reports and white papers.

Careers Centre

Once upon a time, readers would follow Siliconrepublic stories to find out the latest jobs announcements. We value and recognise the importance of this and have gone a step further to create a new Careers Centre that allows readers to not only keep up with the latest jobs stories but find jobs that matter to them. From today, hundreds of new jobs will be available in our Careers Centre. But not only that, every new job will be tagged to appear alongside every relevant story so even the casual reader will be brought up to speed with career developments in their area of interest

Events Diary

Our new Events section provides the ultimate calendar of technology events, from workshops to seminars and conferences, not only in Ireland but globally.

Reports and Whitepapers

The wheels that turn the technology industry are built on knowledge and know-how. We believe a journey in pursuit of this knowledge must not end with a single news story but should index with important whitepapers and reports. From today, our partners IBM, KPMG, Accenture, Sybase and more to follow will have key strategy reports tagged to appear alongside related news, as well as being searchable in our new Reports Centre.

Directory

From today, suppliers with hundreds of various products and services, from networking and telecoms to software and hosting, can be searched for on the brand new Siliconrepublic.

Social media

Every story will feature new social engagement tools that allow readers to instantly ‘Like’ a Siliconrepublic news story on Facebook, instantly ‘tweet’ that story on Twitter and ‘buzz’ it on Google. We believe sharing our news matters more than ever.

The Siliconrepublic Player

Videos can now be viewed in the Siliconrepublic player, enabling an enhanced viewing experience. Our new video player makes it easier for readers to search for and find relevant video material, from the front line of Ireland’s evolving technology industry, featuring interviews with top CEOs, start-ups, innovators, educators and leading commentators.

Tech Store

As we’ve said, it’s not just about reading stories, you can take action. The new Siliconrepublic connects to the Amazon.com technology store, allowing readers to make instant buying decisions on products ranging from peripherals and accessories to PCs, office products and components.

Sponsored Zones

Technology businesses who wish to ensure that there is a place for them to highlight and showcase their products, knowledge and services now have access to special zones in which they can tailor their messages for the many thousands of readers in Ireland and overseas who visit Siliconrepublic every week.

THE NEW REVOLUTION IN NEWS

Alongside existing popular sections like Business, Comms, Digital Life and New Media, the latest generation of Siliconrepublic will be broken into several sections with new fields like Innovation, Strategy, Green Tech and Start-ups.

Each of these sections will feature their own identity and will come with video boxes and useful services such as jobs, events, directories and reports.

Visitors to Siliconrepublic’s homepage will be presented with a shop window to all of the best stories on the site and instant access to trending stories and videos, reports, jobs and events.

We’ve kept the lightbox to allow visitors to enjoy easy engagement with the most popular stories. A central navigation bar on the site provides Siliconrepublic’s editors with the means to divert readers directly to areas of interest, such as the latest financial results, deals and contracts signed in the Business section or the latest gadget reviews in Digital Life.

So what’s new?

Business

Not only will readers be able to see the latest business news, financial results and done deals, but the content in this section will have its own lightbox, related jobs, related events and related reports and videos.

Comms

We will continue to feature the groundbreaking changes as they impact Ireland’s communications landscape, from fibre investment and broadband to mobile networks and the latest wireless communications. This section will have its own lightbox, related events, jobs, reports and videos.

Strategy

Our mission to keep IT managers and CIOs up to speed and help them make the most informed strategic decisions will be embodied in the new Strategy section, which replaces the previous CIO section. Case studies, analysis, interviews and surveys will sit alongside directories, videos, reports and career opportunities for IT professionals.

New Media

The breakneck speed of change in media and entertainment will continue to be chronicled in our popular New Media section. Stories on everything from traditional media to new media giants from Twitter to Facebook and Google will be able to breathe with their own videos, lightboxes and related job opportunities, events and analysis.

Digital Life

The Digital Life section of Siliconrepublic will be the place to go to quench your gadget desires and inform and educate you on how to get the most of your digital lifestyle. This section will feature software and hardware reviews, quirky tales from cyberspace and the merging of real life with digital life through the medium of stories and videos.

Innovation

We believe Ireland’s innovation and scientific landscape needs a place to be charted and so we’ve pumped extra resources into covering this vital area to the Irish economy. Stories on start-ups, innovators and academia will inform and illuminate on crucial areas such as discovery, patents, infrastructure and talent.

Start-ups

Entrepreneurs will be the heart and soul of economies emerging from the economic crisis and we have boosted our coverage in this vital area to include not only stories and videos on issues from venture capital to scaling your business, but a new Life’s A Pitch section that allows start-ups to submit their video pitch as well as a very useful A-Z listing of emerging Irish start-ups to watch.

Green Tech

Urgent issues such as climate change, alternative energies and green policy will be chronicled in a vibrant new Green Tech section, where areas that are problems for the world can be turned into solutions for entrepreneurs, academics and decision-makers from the home, to the business, to the government department.
