Google Voice gathers speed on BlackBerry and Android

Google Voice updates for Android and BlackBerry

An update for the Google Voice mobile app has greased the wheels and made the application faster at dialling with a new feature called ‘direct access numbers’.

Those of you who are living in the US or have found a way around the fact that Google Voice is only available in the US will appreciate this new feature that aims to connect you through the app as fast as you would connect by using voice through your mobile operator.

"With direct access numbers, we assign a unique phone number to every person you call. This means that we no longer need to use your data network to access the server each time you make a call, so calls will be placed much faster," says Flavio Lerda, software engineer at Google.

The updated Google Voice app for Android is available from Android Market today and the BlackBerry one is updated by visiting http://m.google.com/voice from your BlackBerry device.
