Guinness launches clever iPhone app for Arthur’s Day

16 Sep 2010

Guinness has launched what it calls the ultimate Arthur’s Day iPhone app that includes a countdown clock, geo-located photo-based toasts and a friend finder to mark the auspicious anniversary of Guinness at 17.59pm GMT on 23 September.

The Arthur’s Day app is available to download free of charge from the Apple App Store for iPhones.

The app offers users an enhanced Arthur’s Day experience, providing the latest information in relation to all planned events taking place throughout Ireland and allowing users to track where their friends are toasting on the night via a geolocator and a Facebook linkup.

The Arthur’s Day app will countdown to a worldwide toast at 17.59 (GMT), which will launch the global celebrations and once again see some of the world’s most established artists, including Snow Patrol, Brandon Flowers, Paolo Nutini and Kelis, play in traditional Irish pubs and music venues, while raising a glass to Arthur Guinness and his lasting legacy.

A toast function will allow users to create and share toasts (text and image) on the app with other users and also on a live feed tab on the Guinness Ireland Facebook fan page.

A selection of these toasts will be broadcast on the Pub Channel (Sky 881) via a ticker on the channel’s Arthur’s Day broadcast on the day.

The app will also feature toasts and updates from artists performing as part of the Arthur’s Day celebrations.
