Nokia to use Windows Phone 7 for its smartphones?

Nokia is reportedly going to use the Windows Phone 7 platform as an additional platform for its phones.

According to Venture Beat, a “trusted source” has said Nokia will be “likely” using Windows Phone 7.

The source also said its new CEO Stephen Elop will have permission to change the company’s strategy if need be, including OS changes or alliances.

Elop was a Microsoft executive prior to his new appointment, and if Nokia does use its platform, it will be a victory for the computer giant.

It would make Windows Phone 7 the third major platform behind Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

Nokia has been struggling in the smartphone market since the iPhone’s arrival. It recently experienced a huge management overhaul. Elop replaced former CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and its lead of Mobile Solutions Anssi Vanjoki resigned just days later.

Rumours were rife that Nokia would be moving to the Android platform, however, they proved to be unfounded.

Nokia has also recently delayed the launch of the Nokia N8 due to “final amendments” that need to be made on the smartphone.
