Skype 5.0 finally hits Macs

4 Nov 2010

The Skype 5.0 beta is now available on Macs, bringing a revamped look and a more Mac-like experience to the voice chatting service.

Skype has been brought together in one window for easier use and the address book has been integrated so users can call, IM and SMS contacts when they’re on and offline.

It also offers group video calling, allowing video calls between more than two people if they’re on this beta or Skype 5.0 for Windows.

It has a new call control bar, which lets users hang up and mute calls from a mini toolbar that sits on top of web pages.

Chat content can be searched and you can now send and receive IMs even if the recipient is offline.

Contacts can be personalised and calls can be quickly reconnected if the user’s internet connection fails.

Skype 5.0 for Macs is now available on its website.
