Author of shelved paedophilic e-book plans novel

The author of The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure, the e-book Amazon removed from its site after users complained and threatened to boycott the online store, now wants to write a full-length novel.

"It may include some (paedophilia-related material), but it's not going to be the primary focus," said Phillip Greaves (47), a retired nurse's aide who lives in Pueblo, Colorado, US.

Greaves said yesterday that some 300 copies of his self-published US$4.79 e-book, The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure, had been sold on Amazon's Kindle Store prior to its removal from the site on Wednesday, Fox News reported.

The e-book sales didn't come without backlash, though, with Greaves saying he had received more than 3,000 complaints.

In the e-book itself, Greaves claimed paedophiles are misunderstood and his e-book offers them guidance and advice on how to stay on the right side of the law. He told Fox News yesterday he does not promote paedophilia, and it "is something that I have sympathy for because of my own childhood."

As for Amazon, Greaves said it is reviewing the title, though Amazon did not reply to Fox News' requests for comment on whether it is actually doing so or whether it has discontinued selling the e-book.

Pueblo Police Chief James Billings told FoxNews.com his department is investigating the case "to have a better understanding of what this book is all about and to see if there's something we should be concerned about." He also said there is no indication a crime has been committed.
