Delicious will not shut down, to find home elsewhere – Yahoo!

20 Dec 2010

Contrary to reports, Yahoo! has said it will not shut down Delicious, but will find another home for the social bookmarking service.

Last week, a leaked slide from a Yahoo! meeting showed that Delicious, along with services such as AltaVista and MyBlogLog, were listed under “sunset,” suggesting it would be shut down.

Yahoo! also let more than 600 staff members go, further implying that many of its products would be facing the chop.

However, according to a blog post from Delicious, Yahoo! will not shut down Delicious, but believes it could find the service another home elsewhere.

“While we have determined that there is not a strategic fit at Yahoo!, we believe there is a ideal [sic] home for Delicious outside of the company where it can be resourced to the level where it can be competitive,” said the blog entry.

Yahoo! said it’s in the process of “exploring a variety of options” and is talking to companies about the future of Delicious.

The company is still maintaining Delicious, however, if users wish to bail out, Yahoo! notes they can export their bookmarks if they choose.
