RTE News Now app hits more than 200,000 downloads

There have been more than 200,000 individual downloads of RTE’s News Now app, which was launched a little more than a year ago.

The number of downloads were predominantly from iPhone and iPod touch owners. Out of these downloads, 7pc came from Android devices.

“Since we launched our News Now App in January 2010 we have worked hard to continue developing dynamic and innovative content which works in tandem with how people live their lives today,” said Muirne Laffan, RTÉ Publishing executive director.

“People want swift, comprehensive access to up-to-the-minute news and we’re delighted that they obviously feel they get that from the RTÉ News Now app.”

The mobile app offers users news, business, sports and entertainment stories from RTE.ie.

It delivers text updates and lets users watch 11 live daily RTE news bulletins.

The app provides weather updates from Ireland and Europe, as well as marine forecasts and current affairs programmes.

It will also cover the upcoming general election, featuring news alerts, live results from all constituencies and count centres and a series of extra programming.
