Sonos to turn Android phones into wireless music controller

10 Feb 2011

Sonos Controller will be coming to Android soon, bringing the ability to turn an Android device into a wireless music controller for the Sonos Multi-Room Music System.

The app will be able to connect with any Sonos ZonePlayer music system, such as the Sonos S5, which allows users to play the same song in every room of the house or play different songs in different rooms.

Users will be able to control the music system with their Android phone wirelessly. They can access and play music from their library or the internet throughout their home.

The Sonos Controller will let users search for songs and stations by typing or talking into the phone and users can control the volume from here, too. Not only that, but users will be able to play playlists from music services such as Last.fm, Pandora, Spotify and Napster.

The app will work on any device running Android 2.1 or later with a screen size of HVGA 320 x 480, WVGA 480 x 800 or WVGA 480 x 854.

The Sonos Controller app, which is also available for the iPhone and iPad, will arrive on Android devices in March.
