Huffington Post plans UK edition this summer

The Huffington Post is planning on launching a UK edition of its online newspaper this summer.

According to The Guardian, the UK version of the news site will follow the same model as the US version. It will hire a core team of writers and editors, along with publishing work from its network of unpaid bloggers.

Co-founder of the site Arianna Huffington said she always wanted to expand the site internationally, but lacked the funds to do so.

However, the site was recently acquired by AOL for US$315m which may help the company further these plans.

The acquisition was a major part of AOL’s content strategy and Huffington has been appointed head of all news content.

While reorganising the company, AOL let go of a large portion of its editorial staff, along with making several high-profile hires, including New York Times editor Maura Egan. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone was appointed strategic adviser of Social Impact.
