Magnet moves into 3D with BBC Wimbledon broadcast
Magnet digital TV viewers will be served Wimbledon through the BBC’s first broadcast in 3D. The company has added BBC One HD to its fibre-based TV service.
“The 3D broadcast - it is as close to the live action on centre court as actually being there," Magnet CEO Mark Kellett said.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer it in people’s living rooms and expect strong interest in the service.”
A 3D TV and glasses are needed to watch the finals in 3D. For those who do not have a 3D TV, a HD service will still be available on BBC One HD with BBC One and TG4 carrying standard definition feeds.
The finals will take place over the first weekend in July, and will mark the 125th anniversary of Wimbledon.
Magnet's fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service delivers a fibre broadband connection directly to subscribers in a range of housing developments in Dublin, Meath and Portlaoise.
