iOS 5 to be released today – iTunes 10.5 and iCloud already out

12 Oct 2011

Apple’s latest operating system for its mobile device ecosystem the iOS 5 will be released later today, giving users access to new capabilities and the much-anticipated iMessage platform.

iOS 5 includes more than 200 new features, including Notification Centre, an innovative way to easily view and manage notifications in one place without interruption; iMessage, a new messaging service that lets you easily send text messages, photos and videos between all iOS 5 users; and Newsstand, a new way to purchase and organise your newspaper and magazine subscriptions.

Ahead of the new operating system launch, Apple has already released a new version of iTunes – 10.5 – and has begun allowing users to sign up for its new iCloud services.

But we warned – iCloud won’t work until users have actually downloaded iOS 5 because you’ll need to go to your iOS 5 settings. So wait until the new OS has downloaded onto your iPhone or iPad.

Updates are expected to begin rolling out from this evening.
