Instagram is coming to Android

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said an Android version of the popular iOS photo app is on its way. He also spoke about Instagram’s potential revenue models through advertising.

CNET reports that Systrom told an audience at the LeWeb conference in Paris that two people from the Instagram team are working on the Android version. No release date for the app was given.

He said the app was launched on the iPhone first as at the time the founders of the company owned iPhones. However, he said the photographic capabilities of the iPhone 4 helped Instagram’s success.

Instagram has seen enormous popularity and has 14m users. The app, which has been exclusive to iOS so far, allows users to place filter effects over their photos and share them with friends across their photo streams.

At the conference, Systrom also talked about how it plans to earn revenue through advertising. He said that brands such as Audi and Burberry have already joined Instagram to share images of their products, which could be the beginning of how they could advertise.

He also wants to attract more users to the app to grow further interest from advertisers.
