Microsoft investigating Windows Phone messaging hub bug

14 Dec 2011

Microsoft has said it is aware of the flaw that allows a malicious text message to disable the message hub on Window Phones and is investigating the issue.

Yesterday it was discovered that if an attacker sends a malicious SMS message to a Windows Phone device, it will reboot. When the phone starts again, the user will be unable to access their message hub.

The flaw wasn’t specific to any particular device, suggesting it was an issue with the software. Details of how the exploit works were not released.

According to The Verge, Microsoft has confirmed that the bug is legitimate and is investigating the issue.

Once the company finds out more details on the issue, it will “take appropriate action” to fix the issue.
