YouTube reports 1 trillion playbacks in 2011

YouTube has revealed there were more than 1trn playbacks on the site in 2011 – that’s 140 views for every person on Earth. The most viewed YouTube music video was Rebecca Black’s Friday.

“(The year) 2011 was a year of amazing new channels and new stars being discovered, awesome creativity, and of course, Rebecca Black,” said YouTube trends manager, Kevin Allocca, presenting YouTube’s Rewind 2011.

Allocca said there were more than 1,000,000,000,000 (1trn) playbacks on YouTube this year.

The most viewed YouTube video globally was Rebecca Black’s Friday followed by Ultimate Dog Tease and Jack Sparrow (featuring Michael Bolton).

The most viewed YouTube channel was Machinima.

The most-watched major music label video was Jennifer Lopez, On The Floor ft Pitbull.

The most-watched political video was Zach Wahls Speaks About Family, while the most-watched news video was Japan Earthquake: Helicopter Aerial View Video of Giant Tsunami Waves.

iPhone 5 Concept Features was the most-watched science/technology video.

Immortals was the most-watched movie trailer and Mountain Biker gets taken out by Buck was the most-watched sports video.
