US digital media festival South By Southwest (SXSW) has chosen a movie by Irish director Ciaran Foy ‘Citadel’ to be among the first 10 to premiere in the Midnighter’s Section when the festival begins in March.
SXSW, which takes place 9-14 March this year in Austin, Texas, is renowned for discovering new talent and trailblazers, and as well as groundbreaking movies, it is reputed to be where Twitter and Foursquare were ‘discovered’.
Citadel, an Irish/Scottish co-production. is a psychological horror that blurs the boundary between real-life experiences and a darker, fictional world. In the film, an agoraphobic father teams up with a renegade priest to save his daughter from the clutches of a gang of twisted feral children.
“SXSW has become a festival of significant importance on the international film industry calendar in terms of generating international attention and sales for a film,” James Hickey, chief executive of the Irish Film Board, said.
“It is a great achievement for Citadel, the debut feature film from up-and-coming Irish filmmaker Ciaran Foy be selected for this prestigious lineup, and it will serve as an excellent launch pad for the film.
“We wish Ciaran and his Irish and Scottish producers much success with the international launch of their film and look forward to working with them in the future,” Hickey said.
