The BlackBerry PlayBook
RIM has released the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 for its PlayBook tablet, which now introduces an integrated email client, contact and calendar apps with social integration.
Many users complained about the lack of a native email client for the BlackBerry PlayBook, which RIM has addressed in this update. It includes a unified inbox which allows users to access email accounts, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter messages.
It now has calendar and contact apps which take information from social networks to let people keep track of their events. Contact cards will now be populated with information from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
It has updated BlackBerry Bridge, an app which offers a Bluetooth connection between the PlayBook and apps on BlackBerry smartphones to view content on the larger screen. RIM has improved the speed of the app and includes a new remote control feature which lets people use a BlackBerry smartphone as a wireless keyboard for their PlayBook tablets.
The virtual keyboard has been updated with auto-correction and predictive word completion and the BlackBerry Video Store has been launched. As RIM previously mentioned, BBM is not included in PlayBook OS 2.0, as the company is still working on it.
BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 is available now as a free download for BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
