#gdc12 - Havok in major Wii U technology deal with Nintendo
Irish games software company Havok’s Physics and Animation technology will play an integral role in games that will be developed for the next-generation Nintendo Wii U console as part of a deal signed at the Games Developer Conference in San Francisco.
As part of the deal, Nintendo will make Intel-owned Havok's Physics and Animation available to studios developing for the new Wii U console platform.
Access to the technology will allow developers to create high fidelity, immersive games.
“We are very excited to be at the forefront of the new platform and we are honoured to be providing Havok technology to Wii U developers in order to create great games in all genres," Havok managing director David Coghlan said today at the Games Developer Conference.
“Gamers around the world expect high-fidelity realism and want to immerse themselves into new gaming experiences. This licence agreement will give game developers everywhere easy access to Havok's industry-leading technology.
“We are sure this licence agreement will result in the creation of great interactive experiences for consumers on the Wii U platform," Coghlan added.
