How Facebook Page posts can reach more fans (infographic)

9 Apr 2012

Not all posts a Facebook Page administrator makes on the page appears in the news feeds of the page’s fans, an infographic suggests.

In fact, according to Facebook, the average Page post is only reaching 16pc of the page’s fans.

Since most fans never go back to a Facebook Page after they’ve initially liked it, the infographic on Visual.ly by VA Simple Services, a provider of virtual business support, illustrates how Facebook works and how an administrator of a Facebook Page can increase the chances of posts appearing in fans’ news feeds.

The average Facebook user has around 130 friends, VA Simple Services reported, and that user is connected to about 80 community pages, groups and events.

Some users may be overwhelmed to see all of the activity generated by these connections, so to prevent this, Facebook uses an an algorithm formula called EdgeRank to determine what users will see in their news feeds, according to VA Simple Services.

The EdgeRank formula is based on three elements: Affinity, Weight and Time Decay, which the infographic explains further.

The infographic also provides 10 steps on how a Facebook Page administrator can increase his or her Facebook Page’s EdgeRank.
