RTÉ Two HD to launch today on Sky

14 May 2012

RTÉ will today launch a dedicated HD channel for RTÉ Two HD on Sky+ HD. This will provide viewers with HD coverage of the European soccer champgionships, athletics, GAA hurling and football, as well as the Olympic Games in HD for the first time.

Under a multi-year deal signed by Ireland’s national broadcaster and Sky, RTÉ Two HD will be incorporated into Sky’s HD pack, bringing the number of HD channels on Sky+ HD to 55.

RTÉ Two HD will be on channel No 102 on the Sky electronic programme guide (EPG).

RTÉ plans to expand HD offering

“RTÉ Two HD offers Sky viewers a range of international drama like The Good Wife, CSI NY, Nurse Jackie and Blue Bloods, as well as an unbeatable range of sporting events throughout the summer, from Euro 2012 to selected GAA football and hurling – including the finals – as well as the Olympics,” said Glen Killane, managing director of television at RTÉ.

“We look forward to expanding the offering in HD over time.”

Sky Ireland managing director Mark Deering said increasing numbers of TV viewers now regard anything less than HD as a compromise.

“We are committed to delivering the best quality and choice of HD programming to our customers, whether they love watching sports, drama, comedy or the arts,” Deering said.
