#Euro2012 – Irish fans’ road to Poland began in earnest online

The road to Poland for the Euro 2012 championships began in earnest online, with fans busy researching travel and accommodation for the matches at fever pitch in recent months. According to Google Insights, after Nepal and Poland, Ireland is the top country searching for Euro 2012.

Google search results show that fans have been busy online researching the trip to Poland in recent months.

The top 5 counties in Ireland searching for ‘Euro 2012’ were Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, and Kildare.

Google said top sports searches over the last month are dominated by the football with fans looking up ‘euro 2012’, ‘Ireland euro 2012’ and ‘euro 2012 fixtures’.

Fans are getting to Poland any which way they can, with an increase in searches for flight operator Wizz Air, which flies direct from Ireland to Poland, Berlin flights, and for Ryanair check-in.

For those staying at home to cheer on the Irish team, there has been an increase in people searching for Ireland decorations with searches for Irish ‘flags’, ‘decorations’ and ‘bunting’ steadily rising over the last month.  

Olympics also top search activity in Ireland

Ireland’s interest in the Olympics is high, as it ranks third after the UK and Trinidad and Tobago for worldwide searches on Olympics.  

‘Ireland Olympics 2012′ is one of the fastest-rising searches over the last three months and of all of Ireland’s Olympic hopefuls, boxer Katie Taylor is the most searched for qualifier.  

‘Olympic tickets’ was also a fastest-rising search, as many tried to secure a ticket to watch some of the events.
