As part of this week’s Bloomsday Festival, the Irish Writers’ Centre is making a world record attempt, which is being broadcast live online by Liveoneveryscreen.com.
Liveoneveryscreen.com – a new Irish company with offices in Dublin, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur – broadcasts live events to any device anywhere in the world. Launched today, the service is currently streaming the Irish Writers’ Centre’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most authors reading consecutively from their own books. The current record is held by the Berlin International Literature Festival, which featured 75 authors.
The feat by the Irish Writers’ Centre will involved 111 writers reading over 28 hours, finishing up on Bloomsday, 16 June. The readings are open to the public, with a worldwide audience tuning in via Liveoneveryscreen.com, which means that the event can be viewed on a mobile device, laptop or desktop computer, or a smart TV.
Over 13,000 people have already checked out the broadcast, which started at 10am this morning with an introduction by Senator David Norris followed by the first author to read, John Boyne.
Readings will continue non-stop, through the night, culminating at 2pm on Saturday.
