Twitter app update comes with expanded tweets, branded hashtag pages and push notifications

11 Jul 2012

Twitter’s latest app update for iPhone and Android smartphone users includes several improvements that make the mobile experience reflect recent changes to the main site.

Earlier this year, Twitter introduced expanded tweets – which contain previews of content linked within a tweet – for select partners such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Twitter has since added new, diverse media sources to this service and, with the app update, smartphone users will now also be able to view expanded tweets.

Twitter users on iPhones will now be able to access branded hashtag pages like the one created for #NASCAR, while all users will benefit from improvements to the app’s search autocomplete.

Finally, the new update supports push notifications for iPhone and Android, so users can receive an alert any time one of your favourite Twitter users sends a new tweet.
