Irish boxer Katie Taylor has got Twitter abuzz today, with her name trending in Ireland on the microblogging site ahead of her bout at the London 2012 Olympics at 2pm (London time) today against Mavzuna Chorieva of Tajikstan – and because The Daily Telegraph reported her as being British.

The Daily Telegraph published a preview of today’s semi-final match that asked, “Can anyone beat Britain’s Katie Taylor, the most technically proficient attacking boxer in the world?”

Taylor is from Bray, Co Wicklow, and Twitter users are emphasising the fact the champion boxer is Irish as well as reacting to The Daily Telegraph‘s error. Here’s a sample of what Twitter users had to say:

The Daily Telegraph has issued an apology for the error in a tweet.

“We’re sorry for mistakenly describing the fantastic boxer Katie Taylor as British in our London 2012 section today. She is Irish, of course,” the tweet reads.
