Netflix plans expansion into Scandinavian streaming market

Streaming service Netflix is planning to launch its movie and TV streaming service in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland before the end of 2012, the company said this morning.

Netflix was founded in 1998 by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Reed Hastings. In North America, Netflix is the biggest source of web traffic, accounting for around 35pc of total traffic.

Netflix launched in the UK and Ireland earlier this year, offering viewers the ability to automatically stream unlimited amounts of movies and TV shows for stg£5.99 per month in the UK and €6.99 in Ireland.

“All TV (eventually) will be click-and-watch TV, web delivered and built into a smart TV,” Hastings told Siliconrepublic.com in an interview earlier this year.

Across the world, Netflix counts 27m members. TV and movie content can be watched in HD video and with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound on a variety of devices, including PCs, Macs, smart TVs, games consoles, Blu-ray disc players, smartphones and tablets.
