NeverMind Games’ first iOS release comes with an educational twist (video)
Irish games development studio NeverMind Games launches its first app for iOS devices on Friday, and this time they’ve gone the educational route with a maths-based puzzle game.
NeverMind Games was formed after the summer of 2010 when four Irish developers represented Ireland in Dare to Be Digital. On returning from the compeition, they established the games studio in Co Tipperary and released their first app, Solar Sprint, on the Windows Phone 7 platform last year. The studio’s latest development, TroubleSum, is their first attempt to break into the iOS market.
In the game, numbered blocks begin to stack up and players are given a target to reach by adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing the numbers. Anyone familiar with the maths challenges on Countdown should catch on pretty quickly.
Players can use up to seven blocks to reach the target and, when they do, these blocks disappear, making more room and buying more time.
“The sums you have to do are relatively simple,” said Mark Lambe, CEO of NeverMind Games, “but all the time you’re reinforcing your own confidence and ability. Even when we were testing TroubleSum, I can definitely say my schoolboy maths got better.”
The game comes with several visual themes and two game modes: classic or arcade, which is more challenging with power-ups and special blocks.
TroubleSum will be available for Windows Phone 7 and iOS devices from Friday.
