Clint Eastwood appeared on-stage at the Republican National Convention last night to show his support to the Republican candidate for the US presidency, Mitt Romney, and also to interview an empty chair, pretending that he was speaking to the current president, Barack Obama. The online community, typically, has had a humorous response.
Eastwood – who is a highly acclaimed, Oscar-winning director and actor, let’s not forget – proclaimed, “I’ve got Mr Obama here” in front of the crowd in Tampa, Florida, gesturing to an empty chair. He then proceeded to have a conversation with the vacant space, to the bewilderment of many.
The baffling display has since spawned an @InvisibleObama Twitter account that has garnered over 35,000 followers in less than 24 hours.
The event marked the official nomination of Mitt Romney as the Republican presidential candidate for the 2012 election and Romney’s team had paid for a trending topic on Twitter for the event – something tells me #ObamaEastwoodMovies wasn’t their intention.
