Bing tries to prove it’s just as good if not better than Google with a search-off
It’s hard to be the search engine living in Google’s shadow, and though Microsoft’s Bing has come on a lot since its early days, breaking users’ search habits will take more than fancy backgrounds and social search results. But to prove it’s every bit as good as the search giant, Bing is inviting users to rate each service’s results in a blind test à la the Pepsi Challenge.
At Bingiton.com, Bing takes on Google in five rounds of searches to be rated by users. Simply input a term and decide which results you think are better, the left-hand side or the right-hand side, or declare it a draw.
Though both Bing and Google have very similar results pages, keen-eyed users will be able to tell the difference between the two at a glance, but it’s still interesting to see them appear side by side and rank the winners and losers – impartially, of course.
Bing claims that users chose its results twice as many times as Google in blind comparison tests, but my own test saw Google come up trumps with two wins and three draws. Sorry Bing, you’re still No 2 in my eyes.
