What the … Apple’s iOS 6 gives sleepy Dublin suburb its own airport!

20 Sep 2012

As we get to grips with the new iOS 6 we have discovered that in a magnanimous gesture tech giant Apple has decided to bestow on the good people of Kilmacud in Dublin their own international airport. Wait a minute …

Yes, there’s a big of a flap on at the minute with even Ireland’s Justice Minister Alan Shatter warning that an obvious mistake in the new Maps app that comes with Apple’s new iOS 6 operating system could lead to disaster if pilots mistake the label of an airfield in Kilmacud.

The new Maps app arrived overnight around the world as part of the rollout of iOS 6 for iPhone and iPad devices.

There is no airfield in Kilmacud. However, a group of fields sandwiched between local colleges and residential areas has managed to attract a bright pink button with an aircraft symbol emblazoned upon it.

Click on it and the fields are described as an airfield located at Upper Kilmacud Road, Stillorgan, Dublin 14.

All we can say is, thanks Apple!
