Windows Phone 8 to launch on 29 October
Three days after the scheduled release of Windows 8, Microsoft is inviting the tech press to come and get acquainted with its new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8.
In San Francisco, California, on 29 October, we will finally get a first look at Windows Phone 8. While the invite posted by The Verge gives little away, it is expected that the launch will mark the release of the new OS ahead of the release of Nokia and HTC’s new Windows Phone 8 smartphones in November.
Windows Phone 8 was announced earlier this year, featuring a faster GPU, Internet Explorer 10, NFC capabilities and support for multi-core processors. However, the fact the new OS requires at least dual-core processors means that older Windows Phone models will not be able to upgrade their platforms to Windows Phone 8.
