Did you know there are 1,424,657 breakups every day on Facebook (video)

Facebook’s amazing achievement of surpassing 1bn active users has been marked by a clever video collaboration between Cleverbug, an Irish start-up that brings Facebook into the physical world via greeting cards, and social media agency Simply Zesty.

Yesterday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the iconic milestone of 1bn active monthly users has been surpassed.

The Cleverbug video, entitled ‘A Billion Facebook Birthdays’, which kicks off with a statement that sums up the power of social – ‘together we are more’ – throws out some interesting statistics.

For example, because of Facebook, the human population on earth is now connected 130bn ways via friends of friends, families and colleagues.

Some 144m new friends are made every day and every day some 300m photos are uploaded.

Collectively, we spend 19,977 years on Facebook together every day.

Each and every day there are 500 years worth of YouTube videos uploaded.

In terms of relationship status updates, 1,041,095 of our friends change their status update to ‘In a relationship’ every day.

On the flip side, it seems more people are breaking up daily – there are 1,424,657 breakups every day on the social network (gulp) or people going from ‘in a relationship’ to ‘single’.

It would take us 15 years to read just one day’s worth of everyone’s status updates and the video points out that 2.7m of us celebrate our birthdays every day.
