Interview: AOL’s digital prophet David Shing on the future of content and social (video)

AOL’s digital prophet David Shing talks to John Kennedy at the Dublin Web Summit about development in social in the last 12 months and how we are only scratching the surface on changes to the digital media landscape.

At the Dublin Web Summit today, Shing explored professional content on social media and how it is sitting beside peer-to-peer, how it blends together and what that means for advertisers.

He also spoke about the dilution of social, developments in social in the past 12 months and what he foresees coming down the line.

Shing also spoke about the important role AOL’s 155-plus staff in Dublin play in developing the content-management technologies to power a global new media empire that includes AOL’s core, as well as titles like The Huffington Post and TechCrunch.

Prior to his current role as digital prophet, Shing was based in London and held the position of VP Media & Marketing for AOL Europe.

There he focused on delivering the best possible online experience for AOL users by delivering on all aspects of the media content vision and marketing strategy, including online, offline, social and viral partnerships for the AOL brand.

In his role as digital prophet, he works across US and international territories to champion the digital landscape, discussing developments in the internet, interesting projects AOL is working on, as well as identifying new opportunities for the business.
