Talkbits, a Zurich-headquartered company headed by a young entrepreneur from St Petersburg named Olga Steidl has just raised US$2m in early stage funding to bring walkie-talkie-style technology to the social web. She talks to Siliconrepublic.com at the Dublin Web Summit.

Steidl previously headed up mobile ecosystems at Yandex and prior to that her company SPB Systems was acquired by the Russian search giant.

The US$2m in funding came from venture capital firm Runa Capital.

The Talkbits technology effectively allows users to broadcast their voice to members of the social network just like they would if talking over a walkie-talkie. Each message is geotagged to boost social discovery.

It also allows users to have private chats with friends or talk to members of their network.

Steidl was nominated by The Moscow Times in June 2012 as one of the top 10 Russian entrepreneurs to watch and is a Seedcamp and Springboard mentor.
