Interview: Indiegogo co-founder Danae Ringelmann on the rise of crowdfunding (video)

Using Indiegogo as a platform, anyone with an idea could potentially raise money. At the Dublin Web Summit this week, co-founder Danae Ringelmann explained her inspiration to start the site and how the business model is evolving.

Speaking with Siliconrepublic.com, Ringelmann explained that a fateful decision to go back to college and leave behind a high-octane career on Wall Street was probably one of the greatest decisions in her life.

The idea for Indiegogo came to her while she helped co-produce an Arthur Miller play with a friend and while the performance was popular she realised there weren’t many financial incentives available.

After returning to business school with the intention of learning how to run a company, she joined forces with Eric Schell and Slava Rubin and Indiegogo was born.

Officially launched at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, Indiegogo has hosted more than 100,0000 funding campaigns in areas such as music, charity, small business and film.
