Dublin-based user experience design consultancy iQ Content has launched an open-source mobile event listing platform for event organisers and developers, and used this to create the Dublin Event Guide app.
The app is one of the first products to come from iQ Labs, iQ Content’s innovation space for the team to explore new ideas.
Antenna, the platform used to develop the app, was also created in iQ Labs. This open-source platform helps event organisers to manage, publish and mobilise event content, providing a CakePHP-based development framework to quickly create event publications.
“It has always been part of our company ethos to give back to the community and we are proud to release Antenna as an open-source tool: free now and forever for developers to take, use, improve and extend,” said Morgan McKeagney, managing director of iQ Content.
The Dublin Event Guide began as a weekly email newsletter compiled by Joerg Steegmueller. With the new app, smartphone users can easily find free events happening in Dublin, check out the location on a map, favourite them and share them with friends.
The app is available now for iPhone with an Android version to follow in coming weeks. In the meantime, users can also access the Dublin Event Guide via the mobile website.
