A time-lapse video has captured superstorm Sandy unleashing its wrath on New York City from the early morning of 29 October to 30 October, lashing rain so heavy at times it blots out the Manhattan skyline.

The YouTube video, posted by SMvideoChan, had been shot from the Northside Piers Towers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Yahoo! News reported.

The roughly two-minute clip shows the sky darkening over the Williamsburg Bridge and Manhattan, wind whipping up the waves in the East River, and then nightfall and the loss of electricity.

The storm that battered the east coast of the United States and parts of Canada has claimed about 100 lives, RTÉ reported.
