TV3 is to allow viewers to buy TV content via its 3player before it is broadcast on-air, the broadcaster has revealed as part of a micropayments trial.

For example viewers can pay €1.49 to view the second the episode of Tallafornia 2, weeks ahead of its broadcast date in January. It will be available to rent on 3player for a limited time, from 11.30pm this Sunday 9 December.

Using payment partner Pay Wizard viewers can set-up an account which will allow them to rent premium, pre-broadcast shows on 3player to watch on their PCs, laptops and tablets.

“Tallafornia was the most talked about show of 2012 and as the second series comes to TV3 we are delighted to be able to offer fans of the show the chance to see the second episode on 3player before it is broadcast,” TV3’s director of online Stephen Grant explained.

“Services such as 3player allow us to experiment with how we make our content available and, in this first for Irish broadcasters, we are creating opportunities for viewers to be ahead of the game and see premium content before broadcast,” Grant added.
