Almost half of Ireland is now on Facebook, socialbakers.com reveals

Nearly half the Irish population is on Facebook, now that the number of users of the social network has increased by 127,060 in the last six months in the country, social media monitoring site socialbakers.com reports.

Some 2.25m Irish now use the site, or 48.7pc of Ireland’s population, making it No 62 in the ranking of all Facebook statistics by country.

Socialbakers.com also reveals the top Facebook Pages in Ireland, with bands taking up the top 3 spots. U2 ranks at No 1 with 13, 280, 696 fans (also No 1 in terms of celebrities), The Script follows at No 2 with 4,135,902 fans, and The Cranberries is third with 2,262,703 fans.

Baileys brand is in at No 4 (but it’s the No 1 brand), with 1,501, 622 fans, and singer Enya takes the No 5 spot with 1,434,898 fans.

Republic of Telly is tops in Entertainment, with 149,215 fans, Tourism Ireland ranks first in Media with 438,162 fans, Food Safety Authority of Ireland is No 1 (and the only one) in the Politics category, with 1,413 fans, Shamrock Rovers F.C. is tops in Sports with 26,291 fans, and first in Places is Dublin Airport, landing 16,639 fans.
