Two students from IT Tralee behind the viral video of ‘Pulp Fiction Kerry Shtyle’ have been granted approval from Quentin Tarantino himself to overdub the whole film for YouTube viewers.
The Pulp Fiction director was introduced to the video on Cork man Graham Norton’s BBC One chat show, broadcast last Friday.
The clip features an iconic scene from the movie starring John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson, only the original dialogue has been replaced with two distinct Kerry accents.
Delighted with the Irish-ised tribute, Tarantino said the students should redub the entire film in the same manner. “I would actually encourage those guys to do the entire movie!” he exclaimed, adding, “You have my permission.”
The voices in the video belong to Eoin O’Leary and David Williams from Killarney. The music technology students made the seamlessly overdubbed clip to practice their skills in dialogue recording as part of an in-class exercise.
Apparently, the exercise has been performed by students for the past three years, but this is the first time a resulting video has been uploaded to YouTube. It has now received more than 300,000 views and the pair have promised a sequel to follow next week.
