One of the latest mobile resources to come out of the Digital Skills Academy’s WebElevate programme is a new service aimed at helping thousands of parents of young deaf and hard of hearing children to learn Irish Sign Language (ISL).
The ISL Everywhere resource will be one of a number of new web tools and services that will be launched at the WebElevate Showcase at the Digital Skills Academy next Wednesday (27 March).
ISL Everywhere was developed by participants of Digital Skills Academy’s WebElevate Programme for Sharing the Journey, a voluntary support organisation for parents of deaf and hard of hearing children, in collaboration with the Irish Deaf Society and the Centre for Deaf Studies.
The free, easy to use mobile website is designed to be accessed from smartphones or any other internet-enabled devices, so parents can access words needed for daily routines from breakfast to bedtime, while at home or on the go.
More than 15 projects developed for industry partners will be showcased at the WebElevate event by the programme’s graduating mobile app developers, digital project managers, online marketers and front-end developers.
“The project-based learning approach of the WebElevate programme is delivering great outcomes for our participants and partner companies,” explained Paul Dunne, CEO of the Digital Skills Academy.
“Fifty-three per cent of our graduates from the first WebElevate programme who graduated in October last year are now in paid employment with a further 11pc currently in internships,” said Dunne.
“The WebElevate Showcase event provides a great opportunity for our participants, on the cusp of graduating, to launch their digital careers, and for companies to connect with them before they hit the open job market.”
