Irish-based ALISON, which provides free online education and workplace skills training courses, has been named as one of the top 20 e-learning companies in Europe in a ranking compiled by the education-technology company Edxus Group.
Founded in 2007 as a for-profit social enterprise, ALISON recently teamed up with the Galway Education Centre and Athenry Maths Academy to launch a free interactive maths resource for students of the Leaving Cert maths curriculum.
The resource covers ‘strand one’ of the Leaving Cert Project Maths syllabus – probability and statistics.
Along with 19 other ed-tech companies, ALISON features in the rankings, which were compiled by Edxus Group and the media investment and advisory firm IBIS Capital.
The 20 companies were ranked in terms of innovation, scale, market impact and revenue growth over the past year.
Entries for the ed-tech rakings were submitted from companies hailing from 15 European countries.
According to Edxus Group and IBIS Capital, the entries highlighted a number of key trends in the education technology space. These trends include new-generation software-as-a-service (SaaS) instructional platforms, massive open online courses (MOOCs) and the gamification of content.
“We have been impressed by the range of innovation from right across Europe in both the academic and corporate learning sectors,” said Benjamin Vedrenne-Cloquet, Edxus Group’s CEO and co-founder.
The top three companies from the ed-tech rankings will be named at EdTech Europe, a one day summit that will take place in London on 14 June.
