Sky claims more than 2m downloads of its apps in Ireland

Satellite TV and broadband player Sky Ireland has claimed an 80pc year-on-year growth in downloads of its dedicated apps, such as Sky Go, Sky News, Sky Sports, Sky+ and Sky Movies. At the end of May, the broadcaster reported 2m downloads of its apps.

Sky reported that at the end of May Irish consumers made more than 1.3m iOS downloads, followed by 600,000 Android downloads.

The Sky Go app, which enables viewers to watch TV channels, such as Sky Atlantic and Sky Sports F1 HD, on tablets and smartphones, has been downloaded almost 400,000 times.

The Sky+ app, which allows users to discover content and remote record TV programmes, has been downloaded more than 300,000 times.

“We are continuing to see massive change in the way we are able to access content, with more and more people watching their favourite TV when and where they want with more and more news, sport and entertainment content being viewed on smartphones and tablets,” said Mark Anderson, director of sales and marketing, Sky Ireland.
