Users of Eircom’s MusicHub music streaming and download platform have today received notification that the service will no longer be available after 31 July 2013 as the telecommunications operator decides to focus on delivering superfast broadband.
“As an Eircom MusicHub user, we want to advise you that from the 31st July 2013, the MusicHub service will no longer be available,” reads an email sent to the platform’s users today.
Further information on the site’s FAQ, explains, “Eircom Group has taken the decision to withdraw our MusicHub service as it is not a core business activity. Eircom will continue to focus on delivering superfast next-generation technologies to our fixed and mobile customers.”
Pivoted as a key selling point of Eircom’s broadband services on its release in December 2010, MusicHub was built in collaboration with major music labels Warner, EMI, Sony and Universal as an attempt to provide internet users with easy access to music and, thus, cut down on illegal file-sharing. As well as streaming millions of tracks, MusicHub also offered downloads at a cheaper rate than Apple’s iTunes.
Users can continue to stream and download music until 31 July and customers are advised to use any download credits and top-up balance prior to this date.
