From 224 tweets to 400m, microblogging site Twitter shows no sign of slowing down on the seventh anniversary of its launch to the public today.

On 15 July 2006, 224 tweets went out on what was then known as Twttr. Today, 500m users of the social network tweet an average of 400m messages a day.

An infographic titled ‘Tweet City: The City That Always Tweets’ published on Visual.ly divulges recent facts and figures about Twitter. The numbers reveal Twitter’s huge scope: from the number of tweets sent out every second, to the percentage of Twitter users who don’t actually tweet themselves but read other tweets, to the number of Twitter search engine queries per day.

Seven-year itch for Twitter? Hardly. Expansion looks to be on the company’s agenda, if a report about Twitter moving three of its executives out of its San Francisco, California, headquarters to its other locations around the globe is any indication.
