Sky’s new social sharing app lets users record TV from their Facebook accounts

Sky has launched a new Facebook app called Sky Share that lets users not only share what they are watching but actually set Sky+ to record from Facebook in order to watch programmes later at home using a Remote Record feature.

The app lets people discover TV shows based on what their friends are talking about, what’s trending and recommendations.

As well as preview trailers, users will be able to explore TV shows coming up over the next seven days across Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living and Sky Arts.

Sky Share can be used by everyone on Facebook in Ireland and the UK. However, Sky TV customers can integrate the app into the Sky experience by simply logging in with their Sky ID.

In June, Sky revealed that more than 2m of its apps were downloaded by Irish consumers, including dedicated apps, such as Sky Go, Sky News, Sky Sports, Sky+ and Sky Movies.

“Increasingly, our customers in Ireland are turning to social media to talk about and share the shows they love,” said Mark Anderson, director of sales and marketing, Sky Ireland.

“With such a wealth of choice of high-quality content, we know that our customers really value TV recommendations from their friends to help them get the most from their TV viewing.

“Sky Share is the perfect tool to complement this trend – and is all part of our commitment to offer our customers the best combination of choice, control and flexibility,” Anderson said.
