Siliconrepublic.com wins Rabo Tweetie Award for favourite in #TweetieTech

Siliconrepublic.com journalist Elaine Burke picks up the tech news website's Rabo Tweetie Award

Twitter users have voted Siliconrepublic.com as their favourite Irish technology source on Twitter, netting the tech news site an award in the #TweetieTech category at the Rabo Tweetie Awards in Dublin last night.

Siliconrepublic.com’s fellow nominees in the tech category included web design agency Web Factory, payment service provider Realex Payments, young entrepreneurs community Archipelago and journalist Adrian Weckler.

The new addition to Siliconrepublic.com’s mantlepiece, the Rabo Tweetie Award for #TweetieTech

The #RaboTweeties describes itself as “the first awards show to recognise the power, reach and genius of Twitter and the people, businesses, media firms and celebrities who use it.” Twitter users voted for their favourite nominee in 14 categories to determine the winner in each category.

The #TweetieSport category attracted the most votes, according to the Rabo Tweeties Award, with Dublin Match Tracker emerging as the winner in that section.

The #TweetieCharity category also received “tens of thousands of votes and hundreds of nominations”, and the award went to Amnesty Ireland.

Radio station SPIN 1038 emerged as the winner of the #TweetieNews Rabo Tweetie Award as being Twitter users’ favourite breaking news platform.

Thai and Vietnamese restaurant Saba Dublin picked up the award in the food category, #TweetieFood.

In the political sphere, the #TweetiePolitics nod went to commentator Jonny Fallon.

Twitter users voted author Marian Keyes as their favourite writer in the #TweetieWriter category.

The microblogging site is also a place where users share photos, and the Rabo Tweetie Awards have recognised that with the #TweetiePic award, which has gone to Val, a prolific photographer from Sligo.

The  #TweetieFashion award covered the fashion category, with Colour and Image, the account helmed by image trainer, makeup artist and fashion expert Joan Cashman, picking up that prize.

Irish band Kodaline won the #TweetieMusic award, classifieds website DoneDeal.ie received the accolade for #TweetieBusiness, and Twitter users chose actress Amy Huberman as their favourite celebrity on Twitter in the #TweetieCelebrity category.

The Rose of Tralee garnered the #TweetieTV prize for being Twitter users’ favourite TV programme.

The Rabo Tweetie Awards’ ‘golden eagle award’, #TweetieInspire, which goes to the person who is an inspiration on Twitter to many people, has been given to #irishbizparty founder Samantha Kelly.
